Liverpool FC's new ownership "saga" Empty
PostSubject: Liverpool FC's new ownership "saga"   Liverpool FC's new ownership "saga" EmptyWed Oct 06, 2010 4:27 pm

I don't know if any of the Americans on here have heard anything about this at all, but my beloved football club, Liverpool, is currently being "run" by two owners, Tom Hicks and George Gillett. They have, between them, run this club into the ground. Let me put this into some kind of context.
Liverpool Football Club was founded in 1892. It's been around for 118 years. They became the most successful club England. Then in 1990 the league titles dried up. The advent of big money in football was brought about by Rupert Murdoch and the Sky corporation. They turned football into a capitalist business, turning once proud yet poor clubs into rich yet lifeless robots, doing everything their sugar daddy new owners paid them to do.

Then a few years ago, these two Americans come along with promises of money pumped into MY club, and the promise of a shiny new stadium. Instead, they piled £217 million debt on the club, the stadium is now but a pipe dream. This begins to affect the players, and this season, it all comes to a head, with MY beloved Liverpool falling into the relegation zone. Admittedly only seven games into a thirty-eight game season, but still. This is not where Liverpool belong.

Cue this morning. I turn the TV on to find out that Liverpool's chairman and board members have agreed a deal with the owners of the Boston Red Sox to buy Liverpool. Upon hearing this, Hicks and Gillett attempt to block the deal by removing two of the board and replacing them with people told to veto the deal, as they wouldn't make a single penny from their "efforts". They consequently fail with this, but submit a legal challenge to the bid, stating that it "drastically undervalues the club". Unfortunately for them, it's likely that their legal challenge will fail, unless they can come up with a counter-offer, or are somehow miraculously able to re-finance their loans, piling yet more debt on the club.

If this doesn't happen, and the legal challenge continues past a 15th October deadline, the Royal Bank of Scotland take automatic control, but it also means that Liverpool could very well go into administration. This would mean assets would be sold (namely players), and they would receive a 9 point deduction in the league, taking them down to -4 points. MINUS FOUR POINTS. This is totally unacceptable by Liverpool's standards.

How the mighty have fallen.

Yeah, didn't he jump ship just before a game or something? What was that all about?

At least we don't have to worry about the glory hunters buggering off, our fanbase is as loyal as they come. Apart from all the Norwegians. They're just happy to be there on matchdays...

Good thing they've found new owners. I've heard good things about them, more solid sporting background, etc.

Ah well, at least Villa aren't 18th in the league at the moment...

Yeah, right before the first match of the season. It was because he wasn't given the money he needed for new players. Instead they wanted him to sell players and then buy new ones. What a load of crap.

True, we've managed to stay up in the League but god.. we're not exactly pushing ourselves LIKE WE WANT TO WIN IT. No... we're just cruising.

Liverpool should find a new spark now and get themselves up in the chart! I know I'd be motivated if I'd finally got new owners that might do me some good.

The players he had weren't exactly bad though, okay he lost Milner to $ity, but still, Ashley Young? Gabriel Agbonlahor? Decent players if you ask me.

To be fair Houllier did wonders for Liverpool when he was in charge, 5 trophies in one season I seem to recall...

We lost to BLACKPOOL. Yes. Blackpool. And the game before that NORTHAMPTON. of LEAGUE TWO.

I'm hoping that's the case. I'm not sure if Roy Hodgson is the man to make it happen though. He's a nice enough fella, just I don't think he's cut out for the biggest clubs in the world. He ballsed up Inter Milan twice..
