New To RPing

I was wondering if I could get some help with RPing. I've decided, since this place is farely small, it'd be much easier to get a good start on boosting my skill. I'd like to do a tutorial RP, just something to help me out. Yo'll need to explain to me how RPing works, and all that.

that's all i did when i first started rping about.. eight or so months ago ^^

Ok, first I have a few questions...

What exactly do you consider 'god modding'?
And what is 'meta playing'?

god modding.. that can mean two things. automatic hits anything major in my book, without permission..

i mean small blows like 'so and so punche so'n'so in the eye' that could be acceptable
but something like 'so and so ran at so'n'so stealing his/her sword and began slashing his/her body into little pieces.' things along those line.. i mean sometimes things can be acceptable or not depends on the situation and the people playing..

but as far as i see.. people dont like other people assuming they get a hit in..

or creating a character that is practically invincible..

and i am obviously less experienced that you.. i haven't come across the term meta playing..

Ok, genre... hmm.... How about something realistic? I write a lot about band s and what not. So a highschool band RP? How does that sound to you?

i usually dont plan it out.. but.. its really good to..
how do the characters meet or do they already know each other.. stuff like that..
