"Come on, ya dumb bitch!" The dark growl came from the doorway, the silhouette of a tall, dark, menacing man seemed to radiate anger as he stepped forward, his hand clamping down on the young girl's arm, half dragging, half carrying her out of the small, two bedroom apartment. His eyes were the color of obsidian, never ending darkness seeping through them as he looked down at his daughter, cruelly shoving her into the car. It was just shy of three A.M. and the girl was tired, oh so very tired, but he wouldn't relent. Time and again he forced her to stay awake as they drove to through city after city, never once telling her where they were going, nor why their belongings where piled into the back of the car. All he kept saying, when she'd quietly ask where they were going, was Shut the hell up, girl. You don't ask questions. She hated when he got like this. When he got upset, angry, pissed off. He always took it off on her, his little flower bud, always took everything out on her. She hated him, hated him for reasons no one would ever understand, not if you asked the young twelve year old. He reached over, his hand resting on her leg as he sighed, looking down on her as he pulled into a hotel for the night, the Ford F 250 rumbling a bit before the ignition was shut off, causing a dark silence to fall over the land.
"I'm sorry I yelled, Ashlee. I was just really upset, and I needed to take it out on someone. You were the only thing around, so it was you, naturally. The young girl nodded softly, her small pixie cap of straight, brown hair lilting with the movement as her father jumped out of the truck. He reached back into the cab, grabbing her and plucking her from her seat, carrying her into the hotel room he'd previously rented. Ashlee's face was a mix of tiredness and fear as he stepped inside, shutting the door with a silent *thud*
-|Two Weeks Later|-
Ashlee frowned a bit as she looked down the street. There was a group of kids playing in the street. It looked like a simple game of street ball, and she wanted to play with them. She wanted to play with them so so bad. But no, she wasn't allowed to leave the yard, per Papa's orders. "Stupid rules if you ask me. I don't wanna stay in the dumb yard. It's just stupid." She grumped as she sat on her front porch looking around. Her long brown hair was pulled back into a pony tail, and the bright yellow t-shirt and shorts brought out her rather dark tan. Even at twelve, Ashlee was drop dead gorgeous. Her eyes were a mixture of greens, deep sea green swirled to mix with a brilliant shade, causing the effect of constantly bright eyes. Her skin was a deep, tanned color, and she seemed to have the perfect pouty lips.
"Ashlee Lynn, get your ass in the house, now!" The voice was quiet so that only Ashlee could hear it, but it held the threat that Ashlee knew all too well. "Coming Papa!" She quickly called out as she looked at the kids with want and yearning before sighing and turning quickly to rush inside. The door slammed, and if one listened close enough, you could almost hear a young girl crying. Though no one did. No one knew, or would ever know, that behind the closed doors of the McGuiness house, nothing was as perfect as it seemed.
-|Six Month's Later|-
It was finally here! Her father had finally said she could go to school, and Ashlee couldn't have been happier. She sat in the living room, an hour before school was supposed to start, her hair hanging down her back in great waves of silky straightness. She had on a simple, jean skirt and a pastel green tank top with a short, jean jacket over the top. Her feet were clad in a pair of white converses with sea green accents. Her father had dressed her, as he had every day of her life, to make sure she looked as cute and perfect as possible. In her family, perfection was the key. Everything was perfect, from her white backpack with big, pink flowers on it, to her clothes, her hair, even her handwriting had to be perfect.
She looked around, sighing as she leaned back in her chair. She could finally go to school! She'd been home schooled since she was born, and now, at twelve, she was finally going to be going to public school! In the seventh grade, no less! The excitement was almost too much for her to take.
"Be perfect, Ashlee." Her father whispered as he leaned forward and planted a kiss on her forehead. The girl grimaced, though if it was from the word, or the kiss, Lawrence McGuiness couldn't be sure. "I will be Daddy. Always be perfect, no matter what." She replied as she hopped out of the car, looking around. Her face split into the widest of grins. School! She couldn't believe she was actually there as she raced into the small brick building. Chesapeake Bay was a small community, which meant a small school. And friends. She couldn't wait to have friends.
By lunch time, Ashlee was almost overcome. There was so much to learn, and so much to do. She had homework from almost all the classes she'd been in, and everyone had been super nice to her. One boy even offered her to sit at the desk next to him! She was so happy, she could have burst. As she waited in line to get her lunch, Ashlee frowned and tilted her head to the side. There was a group of kids over on the side of the lunchroom, and they seemed to be laughing at something. Though the closer she looked, the more apparent it became that the something, was actually someone. "That's not right.." She muttered to herself as she excused herself from the line and made her way over to the group, and the girl in the middle.

| -*One Year Ago*-
She sat in the living room watching a classic Disney movie, The Lion King, with her family. She was turning ten soon, and just a typical little girl really. Her big brown eyes took in all the scenes, and she sang along to a movie she must have seen a hundred times. The small trailer out in the country with her grandparents is what she called home for nine good years of her life, it had been pretty laid back, though her uncle and his family constantly moved in and out; she was content. She sat there with a white spaghetti strap shirt and a sweater like hot pink skirt. *ring*
“Ally would you get the phone for us please” her grandmother asked while she stirred a pot of rice for the night’s dinner. The small girl jumped up and grabbed the phone “hello?” her unusually small voice spoke into the receiver. “Mommy!” she screamed happily, she loved her mother so much, and only seeing her for a few days at a time every six months was hard on her. She broke out into little sobs as the woman on the other end urged her to cheer up. “Good News?” Ally quieted and nodded on the phone as her mother gave her good news. “IM MOVING WITH MOMMY!” Ally couldn’t help but scream in delight as she danced all over the room..
-*Two Months Later*-
“Ally.. What the hell is this mess?! What the hell did I tell you about damn well using my pots and brownie mix?!” he mother looked at her with angry brown eyes, her short greasy black hair sticking up every which way.
Ally looked up at her mother with tears in her eyes, she was only ten years old, she had only tried to do something nice for her mother. “But mommy, I tried to make you a-..” her words suddenly cut off as she caught a slap on the cheek, her hand immediately rushing to hold the stinging area as she cried.
“I didn’t sign up for this when I decided to take you with me.. You are nine years old Ally.. Soon to be ten.. Do you know that I was cooking and cleaning and taking care of my mother and father and brothers and sisters when I was six?!..” the somewhat heavy set woman snatched Ally up by her shirt and starting screaming at her. “You damn well destroyed my bowls trying to cook rice in the microwave.. You burn my pots to cinders trying to cook only God knows what.. You destroy my damn couch with your art project and you waste my brownie mix and leave this place in a mess.. You want me send you to ya father?! Is that what you want?! You want me to send you back to where I come from so they can sorely bust your ass?” her mother let go, Ally got sent flying backwards hitting her head on the wall. She sobbed hard as she curled into a little ball on the floor. Why does my mommy hate me? I never do anything good enough for her.. I want to go back home.. I just miss everyone.. I don’t want to stay here
Out of nowhere a smack sound echoed in the room and Ally’s little body nearly had the breath knock out of her it was so hard. Her eyes focused again as she stretched a hand to another stinging spot, she looked up to see her mother and a leather belt. “You want something to cry for?! Eh? I’ll give you something to cry for! GET IN THERE AND WASH THE DISHES!” another lash was sent into Ally’s back and she jumped up and ran to the kitchen, more lashes attacking her bare legs and back as she cried silently and tried to wash. How much longer to I put up with this? Grandpa… I need you
-*Eight Months Later*-
The abuse never stopped for Ally, and she cowered in fear at her mother’s every move, even now as she woke up to get ready for school she flinched when ever her mother’s hand flew up.
“I’m going to work.. Get ready.. Get out.. You are ten now.. I expect you to start waking up on your own.. So hurry up eat shower and get your ass to school.. I don’t want to see none of the C and B shit anymore.. God help me.. I don’t know what to do with you..” he mother told her as Ally stood groggily beside the kitchen table. Ally’s eyes were blank, and her face hateful and hurt looking. She watched her mother carefully as ‘Ms. Perfect Police Officer’ swept up three hot trays of brownies and headed out the door. Hearing the car door a few seconds late and the engine slowly fading away, she broke down in tears.
“YOU HATE ME! I KNOW IT! I WANT TO GO BACK HOME! I’M TIRED OF THIS! HOW COME YOU CAN’T BACK ME NO COOKIES?! OR BUY NICE THINGS FOR ME?!?!” she fell to the floor holding herself, the knot in her throat paining her more than ever. She hadn’t signed up for this, after about five minutes she regained her fragile composure, looking at the dreadfully embarrassing outfit she would have to wear. She had learned the hard way not to try to wear something else, as the tears welled again and the knot raised she thought back to that day. ---Her mother had picked out some ridiculously short carpenter jeans and some boy church shoes with white socks and a ugly vest sweater type thing. Ally had waited until her mother left and changed into some clothes she had brought back from her grandparents house. She figured she would be home before her mother would even know, so she would be in great shape, and not humiliated again. She was wrong, that just happened to be the day her mother came to her school. Watching her mother walk into her English class gave her the biggest heart attack ever, if she could have gotten one, her eyes were fixed on her mother in her uniform. Her mother got permission to take her out of the room for a little while, they went to the bathroom. Her mother literally beat the snot out of Ally for not wearing what she was supposed to, she tried to scream, but her mother only covered her mouth. She could remember thinking Just my luck, have bathrooms outside the building and in another place so I cant be heard.. Someone.. PLEASE walk in.. Help me!
She shook her head vigorously at the memory, blinking her eyes rapidly for a few seconds. She couldn’t be late, she hurried and make herself two eggs and orange juice, sitting at the table as she ate. Five minute later she reluctantly jumped into the shower, the thought of her soon to come humiliation haunting her, she cried as she finished and got out looking for her towel, her slightly bruised body shivering. She grabbed one from in the cupboard and went into her room, to get dressed properly. As she finished she stared at herself, today she had on the crappy short carpenter jeans, sneakers and a tank top under a collared shirt. She shook her head, she was going to live another day in humiliation “Why can’t I just be normal? Why does she have to be my mom?” she asked herself in the mirror as she picked up her backpack as she heaved one last sigh and walked out the room. Grabbing her house key from the hook by the door, she took a deep breath as she walked out. It was a short lonely walk to school, but she didn’t mind it, gave her a little more time to not be teased. Her long black hair was up in braids that hung midway down her upper arms, shaking slightly as she bounced and walked along to school. Approaching the little community school, she headed in for another bad day of her life.
Lunch came around all too soon, and Ally was glad she hadn’t been teased THAT much, she got in line behind everyone else and got a tray and went to a table. She put her tray down and was just about to sit when a group of boys and girls circled her, they insulted, pushed her around, and teased her. She fell to the ground and started crying silently.

| Ashlee's eyes went wide as she looked at the small group of people that were surrounding the girl. She looked to about about the same age as Ashlee, though it was incredibly obvious that she wasn't treated right. Ashlee's eyes narrowed darkly as she pushed through the group of people, her dark hair shifting lightly as she glared at the people. "What's going on here?" She demanded as she shoved back a boy with black spiky hair and a red polo. She snarled at another with dirty blond hair and a yellow t-shirt as she pushed him back. "Get out of here, now. None of ya'll have any right to do this." Glaring at each and every one of them, Ashlee walked up to what looked like the ring leader, a tall girl with long, straight blond hair. She looked almost as perfect as Ashlee, almost. "I know your type. And I know your games. Now get outta here before I beat the crap outta you and your pathetic friends!"
The girl snickered as she looked down at Ashlee, her baby blue eyes piercing into Ashlee's pools of different colored green ones. She reached out, pushing Ashlee back a couple steps, though the young girl was prepared for such antics. She barely moved a foot back as her hand shot up and shoved the girl back as hard as possible. Ashlee laughed lightly as she watched the tall blond stumble back, her body hitting a trash can and toppling backwards over it. Trash flew everywhere, all over the girl's lap and hair. "Ewwww!" She shrieked as she jumped up, dusting her hands all over herself, trying to get the dirt off. "You're gonna pay for that, Little Miss Perfect!" She yelled as she nodded to the group of people surrounding Ashlee and the girl. As one, they all walked away, shooting the unlikely pair dirty glances, and rude glares as they passed.
Ashlee slowly walked back to the girl, brushing off bits of lettuce as she knelt beside her. She reached out her hands and softly brushed some of the dirt off the girls clothes before lifting her head with two fingers under her chin. She looked into the girl's eyes softly, her green depths swirling with different shades of green. Some light, some dark. "Are you okay?" She asked, a small frown on her face as she brushed a strand of hair out of the girl's face. She stood, reaching down and helping the girl to her feet, indicating to the table she'd been sitting at. "Come on, let's sit back down." She said, her voice soft, yet firm. Commanding. She sat down across from the girl's tray and reached over, plucking a piece of food from her tray, and started munching on it. "I'm Ashlee. Ashlee Lynn McGuiness." She smiled warmly, her teeth pearly white, and perfect. "Wanna be friends...?"
-|Six Months Later|-
Ashlee cried softly as she curled up in her bed. She tugged her t-shirt down, and pulled the covers up completely. Her arms wrapped around her giant teddy bear, Genesis, and held him tight until there was hardly any stuffing around his middle. Sometimes she hated the night. The dark. Most of the time, actually. She lay there, curled onto her side, and watched the light dance across her room. She had a night light that was in the shape of a disco ball. It was so cool because it threw off little beacons of different colored light. Her mom had gotten it for her when she'd been really young, though she couldn't quite remember the exact day.
Closing her eyes, Ashlee let out a shakey breath, her tears finally subsiding, though her body still hadn't stopped shaking, and her stomach still hurt too. But that was okay, she'd dealt with this kind of pain before, and she'd deal with it again. Sighing softly, Ashlee turned once more in her bed, holding onto Genesis tightly as a fresh wave of anger filled her small body. She hated this house. Hated this room. Hated this life. Hated it all. And that's what she thought about as she laid there, her eyes narrowed slightly, her hands gripping her teddy like a lifeline. She thought of how much she so very hated everything.

| The next couple of minutes were absolutely a blur to Ally as she stayed on the ground with tears in her eyes. She was relieved to see the girl before her who helped her up. She gave her a shy smile as she had moved her tray and sat with the girl, watching her with grateful dark brown, nearly black eyes. She nodded, her small voice coming out again as she opened her mouth to speak. “Yea.. I’m fine, kinda used to it by now” she glanced down at the chicken nuggets, fries, fruit, and dessert a heavy sigh escaped her lips. Not really hungry now.. She looked up and smiled “I’m Ally.. Ally Daresse Nadine.. friends sounds good, I kinda don’t have any” that moment was a great day for Ally, finally she had a friend. The rest of the day Ally was left alone, and thanked Ashlee nearly a hundred times, as they left to go home they told each other where they lived and exchanged phone numbers.
Ally hurried home happy as could be, until her mother would be home of course. She did everything she had to do before she did her homework, and then settled into her room to get her math done. She leaned her head against the wall as she sat on the bed working. “Thank you God.. Please keep my new friend safe..
-*Six Months Later*-
Over the course of six months Ally and Ashlee had already gotten really close and Ally was just thankful she had a best friend who she was always there for, and would always be there for her. That afternoon after she had come home from school, she had walked into the house to stand face to face with her angered mother. She stared as her mother approached her angrily and snatched her up by hear hair, Ally let out a yelp and her mother quickly slapped her across the face. “Didn’t I tell you to wash the dishes before you went to school? Why isn’t it done?” her mother yelled at her as she dragged her into the kitchen, and nearly pushed her head into the dishes in the sink. Ally starting crying, her head being moved in forcefully.
She screamed and beat at her mother’s grip which only made it worse “ You wanna hit at me you nasty ungrateful little wretch.. You see your damn room.. all those papers and crap all over the floor..” he mom growled as she let Ally go in the hallway by the cupboard. Ally looked around frantically, she needed a way out, but she was so scared. Why won’t the cops believe me.. Oh I know.. cuz she’s damn perfect.. God, save me.. please.. I can’t take this much longer.. pleaseGod.. PLEASE she begged in her mind like she did every time her mom placed her in the hallway. Her eyes filled with fear as her mother came back from her room, she didn’t have a belt this time, but a wooden rod about an inch in diameter. “Mommy no!! Please mommy.. Im sorry!! I woke up late Ill do it now.. Please mommy.. Don’t beat me” Ally cried as she backed herself into a corner, the tears spilling from her eyes as her chest felt heavy and her knees nearly buckled.
“I be damned if I let you go.. Then what? You going to do it again and again.. Hell no.. The devil isn’t going to have no child of mine.. Put up your hands now!” Her mother screamed at her as Ally cowered. With uncontrollable sobs, trebling like a scared Chihuahua she put her hands up, then the first blow struck, right on her delicate wrist. “Owwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!” she screamed and broke into more sobs as she dropped to her knees holding her wrist tightly “ Mommy pleeeeease” she begged as she started rocking back and forth. “Get you ass up or ill put it all over you” her mother screamed as a reply. Ally couldn’t the pain rushing through her hand was immense, and she was already bruising green, soon it would be purple and blue. She shook her head, another mistake, her mother started beating her like a piƱata. Her screams and shouts went unheard, or if they were heard, people were too scared to care.
After about five minutes her mother left her, bawling her red eyes out on the floor, her body in searing pain as she felt the welts on her arms and legs. “You better get your butt up and watch the dishes before I come home tomorrow morning” her mother told her as she went to her room like nothing happened to get changed into her uniform. Her mother soon left and Ally stayed curled up on the floor. “God.. WHY DO YOU HATE ME?! WHY CAN’T I HAVE A MOM WHO LOVES ME?!” she quieted as she rolled over best she could and stood, small sobs poured from inside as the stinging beat upon her relentlessly. She didn’t know what to do as she looked around the house, her mind was too cluttered and the pain driving her crazy. “Ashlee..” she whispered softly and looked out the window at the dark neighborhood.
She hurried and washed the dishes, and shoved most of the papers under her bed then went back into the room. She pondered for a long moment as she rubbed her bruises “Ouch..” she flinched after touching a few, they really hurt so bad. Finally she made up her mind as she stood on her bed and opened the window, being careful, she jumped out. Getting up she winced as she ran through all the back ways and stayed away from the road, where her mother might be patrolling, and made her way to Ashlee’s house. Looking through the window she saw Ashlee, and she already started crying as she thought about the abuse she had just received, then tapped on the window.
“Ashlee!...” | |
