| ICThread Chat Room This is the world of 2030, and you are not normal. Since the mid 1960's the people of Earth have discovered Myst, a powerful airborn agent that exists somewhere between a vapor and a wavelength, shifting between the two at speeds to great to actually discern the difference. Myst is psychoreactive, gathering and pooling wherever humans concentrate. It can be manipulated, and through those manipulations it can change the physical world, a reaction that many scientists have given very long and important names. Nobody remembers those names, because the truth is, to the average person, Myst is nothing short of magic... Recently, the high concentrations of Myst from overuse of magic has created anonymous and unusual birth defects. Unlike birth defects before the Myst became common, most of the children with these defects survive to adulthood quite healthily, and often have abilities that exceed normal humans by far. These mutations, these 'Mystlings', as scientists call them, these 'Damned Freakshows' as the public prefer, are almost always fully in control and otherwise normal humans. The public fear of Mystlings stems from a compound issue of the general feelings of mutual inferiority and superiority, the general dislike of anything different, and the over-hyping of a handful of Mystlings proven to cause random and unpredictable fluctuations in the Myst, often resulting in small-scale disasters. Technology has advanced little in the last twenty years as more and more people are fine tuning the ability to control Myst. Society, on the other hand, has retrograded into fear, hatred, blatant racism against the Mystlings, and continues to do so. Most parents reject Mystlings, and send them to foster homes to maintain their own status in the community, or to protect their child from violent family members. This has gotten so bad that an overwhelming majority of Mystlings choose to live in cramped and poorly constructed campsites hidden from the general public. One such location is known as the Alpha Site, the first major Mystlings campsite to be voluntarily occupied, and magically defended from the public. This site is hidden in a disconnected subverse, a crowded and busy metropolis of ramshackle tents, small trailers, and even some coveted mobile homes. Those that can pass for normal for brief times can enter the nearby city of New York and purchase supplies, most Mystlings never leave the Alpha Site except to visit other compounds. The Alpha Site is one of the few compounds lucky enough to be generally regarded as self-sustaining, and is now your home. Timeline 1965 - Myst discovered. 1990 - Mystlings born rarely, suspected but not yet proven to be related to the Myst. 1998 - Mystlings proven to be caused by Myst after a massive inquiry into the rise in the birth defect rate. 2001 - First major disaster involving a Mystling. Sarah Cooper, age 11, created gale force winds during school and injured 15 students and 3 teachers in Portland, Oregon. 2002 - First recorded Mystling discrimination. The Academy of Myst denies admittance of Mystlings whose ''Physical or mental deformities may distract from the learning environment or challenge the religious viewpoints of students.'' 2003 - First fatality associated with uncontrolled Myst. Mystling Jersey Chandler, age 9 burned a toy store to the ground. 2005 - First 'Mystling Registration' laws passed. All Mystlings are required to submit to psychological testing and evaluation of powers. 2008 - Mystling Registration laws repealed. Less stringent laws are effected that require counseling for Mystlings that exhibit signs of depression. 2011 - Mystling Jonathan Novac, age 17, held responsible for the deaths of over forty people in a New York subway. Mystling hatred levels in New York rise. 2011 - First act of hate crimes committed against Mystlings. Saul Pless murders three local Mystlings on the way back from college, leaves hate filled speech at the crime scene. 2012 - A beta version of the Alpha Site is created in the New York underground, a small collection of Mystlings live and work together to form a community that resists oppression. 2014 - The beta Alpha Site is brutally attacked and 17 of the 82 members are killed. The collection disperses, but a small core of Mystlings set about to produce a safe harbor for their families. 2017 - Work on "Home" has been completed, during the course of creation several similar programs have begun in other cities around the world. The site is declared the first functional Mystlings city, and renamed 'Alpha Site'. 2020 - Alpha Site population reaches over two thousand. Self governing system of 'One being, one vote, one family' put into place. All residents given the right to vote on any issue of concern to them. 2022 - New sector of public defense created, a program is put in motion to protect the public from hazardous Mystlings without proper control of Myst. Character SheetName : (Human names only please, unless your character is so wrapped up in themselves that they started demanding everyone call them something else...) Age : No Mystling will ever be more than 40 years old. That's when the Myst levels reached critical and started changing us. Mutation : (Please be reasonable. Any form of were is great, living stone is okay, massive fiery dragons will die at birth. Sorry.) Appearance : (Plenty of description, or a picture.) Hazard Level : (Some Mystlings control magic just fine, others cause random spells without meaning to. Some mutations are uncontrollable in and of themselves, such as secreting poison from the skin involuntarily.) Biography : (We're all good writers here that I know of, so try to make it deeper than 'Parents died, lived under rock') Spare Room To Type : (This is your space to mention that he likes cheetos, or that she can't stand having her tail touched.)

| Name : Valeria Ford Mutation: N/A Appearance: - Spoiler:
Hazard Level: N/A Biography: From Valeria Ford's official fileA recent psychological test has shown shown the officer in question may need careful watching. It appears something happened to the officer in the past that has caused a deep-seeded hatred of the Mystlings. Despite prodding, she would not reveal the cause of it. This causes me some alarm, as she may act unpredictably in the field because of this unknown factor.
The subject also has some clear anger issues, possibly related to the unknown element mentioned above. I strongly suggest further therapy to deal with this.
The subject was very closed off about her family, but as soon as the discussion touched on her service record, she became very open. Talked a lot about how enrolling five years ago changed her life, and how the service is the best thing to have happened to her. I do not think her loyalty is in question.
The subject expressed bitterness and anger when the Turner incident was brought up. It is clear that she feels betrayed after finding out a close friend was in fact a Mystling. This is another probable source for her anger issues, but review of her records show that this is not the sole cause.
In closing, I think the subject requires a close eye for the time being, and further therapy is recommended.Spare Room To Type: Works for the military police force tasked with protected the public from the Mystlings. Age is 28. Name: Alex Mutation: Werefox, sort of. Her were form comes at random, and isn't that impressive. The rest of the time she keeps the fox tail, and slightly pointed ears. Appearance: - Spoiler:
Hazard Level: Uncontrollable transformations, but otherwise harmless Biography: Excerpt's from Alex's Foster Care File...The child entered foster care soon after birth, both parents unwilling to care for a Mystling. She had not yet been named, but one of our nurses has begun calling her 'Alex' and it has stuck. We will begin the process of placing her in a home as soon as we feel she has received enough postnatal care and is healthy enough...
...We feel Alex is healthy enough to be placed, so we have begun the process of selecting a home. It is somewhat difficult, as the number of homes that will accept a Mystling are rather low in number, and rather crowded. She may have to stay here a bit longer until there is a space available.
...It is Alex's third birthday, and we have finally found a place for her. She will be sent off to Mrs. Fredrick next week. She is a rather sweet child, and I believe many will miss her presence here, but that is the way of things...
...Mrs. Fredrick, like most who take care of Mystling children, homeschools her charges. She has recently began teaching Alex, and reports the child shows a fascination with science. It is a shame that there is a low probability of her gaining work in that area, with her obvious mutation...
...Mrs. Fredrick has reported Ales has been causing trouble. She has apparently been acting out against the other charges, getting into arguments and some small fights. The cause of these conflicts is uncertain, but Mrs. Fredrick believes it may have been caused by the other children bullying the girl. We are going to wait it out before we decide whether to transfer her to another family or not...
...Alex has been transfered to the Johnsons' care last week. The initial report is mostly positive. The only concern is that she is not interacting with the other children, preferring to play alone with her chemistry set. Time will tell if this is just shyness or something else...
...Alex has adapted well to her new home. The Johnsons report she is getting along nicely with the other children and continues to excel at science...
...It is a few months after Alex's 14th birthday and the Johnsons reported something unusual. Alex's mutation apparently also includes an unwilling transformation into a sort of 'werefox' form. We are unsure if this is a random occurrence or linked to something, perhaps an emotional state or hormone imbalance. The Johnsons have assured me they will record the exact circumstances if this happens again...
...Alex has reached her 18th birthday, and has left the program. I am unsure of her plans for the future, but I can only hope she stays safe...Spare Room To Type: Age is 26

| Does that help with the wall? I'll try to have my character out soon... Oh, I should mention that you can have a human character if you want one, and you can have as many characters as you can actively control at one time. Try not to make so many characters that you forget where they are. | |

| That looks better to me. So, what about the compound's relationship with the 'outside world?' Does anyone normal now about it, or is it a pretty well kept secret? | |

| The existence of the compounds is known, as well as the general location. The population of New York is aware that they are closely connected to the Alpha Site, but the entrance portals are hidden and protected. There are many entrances, but they commonly are found in dark alleys, abandoned buildings, et cetera. Places that no normal person would live. Most humans don't really care that Mystlings congregate in these compounds, save that they would love to find the compound and keep the Mystlings from ever coming back out... The majority of the normal people are content to allow/coerce/force the Mystlings to abandon the human cities and never return. A handful of violent and bigoted people, growing in number recently, actively seek to destroy the compounds.
Yes, credit. XD This was originally a chat RP jointly created by Grim, Hira, Q, and I. Sorry... I wasn't really thinking about that, just trying to get it off the ground. *Dies* EDIT: Hey! We're all on! XD I'll be in the chat. ^^ | |

| Name : Jeremy Dillard
Mutation : Basic Neko mutation.
Appearance : Short orange cat ears, long orange cat tail, darker orange stripe patterns on the tail. Short fur, only on the ears, tail, and one other location of no particular relevance at the moment. Greenish yellow eyes, not as reflective as a cat's but more so than a humans. Round pupils. Clear complexion, pale skin. Black hair. Tall and skinny. Nails are fully human on the hands, cat toenails between human toes with normal nails. Fairly clean, takes care of himself very well for a Mystling, able to pass as human for long enough to go purchase decent clothes and shower in motels. Usually wears a semi-casual button up shirt and slacks, unless he needs to wear a hat to pass for human. Uses bluejeans, loose tees, contacts and a baseball cap to hide his appearance.
Hazard Level : Good control of Myst, no real danger to others unless provoked.
Biography : Jeremy grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. His past, like many Mystlings, gave him little to be happy for. He was often mistreated by the local children, once even taken to jail for using Myst to stop them. After six months in jail he was deemed to be in control of his magic, and strongly warned not to use it again. At the age of 14 he had saved up money doing odd jobs and stealing and bought cheap tickets to Japan. He lived there for a while with a band of Mystlings that had similar feline traits, and learned to hide his tail inside loose shirts, to use contacts to change his eye colour, and to flatten his ears into a baseball cap. He refined his control of Myst in Japan, but eventually his small clan broke apart under the stress of living in a cramped Tokyo apartment. He moved back to America three years ago with a small reserve of cash, and has tried not to dip into his savings when other options remain. He is now 25, and has just moved to New York after being discovered by a local gang of intolerant thugs in Redding, California.
Spare Room To Type : Loves to have his ears and tail scratched, purrs when done correctly. Eats sushi often, usually with green tea or sake. Never drinks very much in public, doesn't drink alone, and only drinks with friends or other Mystlings once a month or so. Speaks fluent Japanese.

| Name : Brock Turner Mutation : His skin turns bright and metallic looking, but also becoming harder than diamonds. His skin is impenetrable when it shines. He isn't indestructible, just unable to be pierced. He can still poisoned or something of that sort. And he is vulnerable like a regular human when he doesn't have his defense up. Appearance : - Spoiler:
It's David Boreanaz...also known as Angel from...Angel.. Hazard Level : Can usually control his mutation pretty well, but if frightened or shocked, it will automatically kick in. Unfortunately, he does have an uncontrollable release of Myst that cause earthquakes. When he is severely angered, this release occurs, causing an average of 5.5 to 6 on the Richter scale. But it is believed that he could achieve an 8.5 if he was angered beyond the point to think rationally and calm down. The only problem is that this would cause a good deal of self destruction if he ever reached this point. But for this reason, he would be marked as an extremely hazardous Mystling. But at this point in time, he is off the grid and not registered for anything past his skin mutation. Biography : Brock discovered his mutation at a very young age, but knew all to well that people like him were not accepted, so instead he kept it hidden from everyone, including his parents. As he got older, Brock did his best to maintain a very normal life. At the age of 10, soon after joining the Academy, he met a girl by the name of Valeria Ford, whom became his best friend. They did everything together, and he always felt as though she was what really grasped him to the real world. But she confided a secret in him that made it impossible for him to reveal his mutation to her, although she was the only one he would of trusted to know. So instead he kept it hidden from her, and though there were times when they obviously felt attraction to one another, he never let it get that far in fear of realizing he was in fact a Mystling. But one day, when he was 17, he was jumped by another boy and his goons. The boy liked Valeria and thought that they were dating. It happened in front of everyone, and the surprise caused his mutation to kick in, showing everyone exactly what he was. He ran without ever looking back. He left behind everyone, knowing even though he had been friends or family with some of these people for either his whole life, or a good many years, they wouldn't accept who he was anymore. So he ran...and ran...and eventually made it to Alpha Site, where he still lives alone today, now the age of 28. Spare Room To Type : Uh..cheetos are delicious. I'm going to make him sort of rebellious at some point in the story...he'll be pretty much to himself for awhile, but he's going to get fed up with all the crap Mystlings get and rebel...sweet right? lol

| Well, anyone, human or Mystling, can control Myst. Basically, use magic. I'm a neko, that's what makes me a Mystling, but I also control Myst. Most Mystlings have more powerful connections with the Myst, (read = better, stronger magic users) but some of them have a connection so strong that it gets away from them. They cast spells without meaning to, sometimes very powerful spells that are dangerous to others. I'm just asking, if your character gets upset over something, is there any chance he'll cause an earthquake by accident even if it's not his mutation? ^^ | |

| ah, didn't know that. not gonna lie, an earthquake sounds like the perfect uncontrolled action. i believe that will be what happens when he loses control from getting far to angry or something of the sort. but being that it is such a dangerous event, he'll have to be like at the extreme of anger for it to happen. | |

| Alright, so hazard level... I'd estimate a three, depending on just how bad the earthquake is. If you can indicate a Richter scale measurement of the incidents in your bio, that would help. ^^ | |

| My character's only hazard is still her uncontrollable transformations. And since she only turns into a cute, harmless werefox, that doesn't warrant a hazard level does it?

| i don't have time to morph my bio cuz im on my way out the door. i will tonight. but we'll say an average myst blast would be about a 5.5 to 6 on the Richter scale, but he believes if he got angry enough, he could cause up to an 8.5. but it would become self destructive at that point.
EDIT: Nevermind, I changed by bio to include it now. check it out. | |

| Name : Shuanna Asuka Mutation : Glows brightly and can fly only at night, but she can always sing, which can be heard for miles. Appearance : Shuanna appear's pale, very frail and dainty. That's because Looks are not deceiving when looking at shuanna because the first thing that pops into your head is most likely right. Jail bait. Shuanna isn't much for offense or defense. She has no muscle and she's short girl. She can't run fast at all on the account of extremely long white hair, large bust and clothing, which is a bed sheet. Hazard Level : Shuanna has control over her singing mutation fairly well, since from what she can remember from her past, she's been able to sing beautifully for as long as she can remember. Her flying can be a little shaky at times, since she sleeps at night like every one else, she hasn't really thought about practicing flying. The glowing at night is in-voluntary. Biography : Shuanna's struggled to fend for herself for quite a while now. Clothed only by a bed sheet, she's aware of how dangerous looking like this is. She remembers waking up wrapped in a bed sheet in a ditch on the side of a high way road. Her voice is barely peeks through a cover of whispers because when she came to, she found a bike lock around her neck. This can only mean that She was suppose to be murdered, and the lack of Oxygen during that time caused portions of her memory to dissipate. She knows in her heart that she has family, and she knows that she had a loving home, a bed, a regular array of cloths, everything a normal girl would have. She just doesn't remember any of it. [/b] Spare Room To Type : Eventually Shuanna's voice will come back and she'll be able to sing again, but for now I'll impair it. This will maybe give anyone the chance to use Shuanna to talk to other humans with out being suspected. This is how she can be useful, and maybe persuade some humans to understand mystlings.
-- Name : Benjamin Verseckt Mutation : He is able to teleport himself and objects short distances, this leaves small puffs of black smoke in his (it's) wake and he is able to bound long distances which leaves a trail of shadowed images of himself that disappear in an' instant. Appearance : Ben wears a sleek black suit with a red tie tucked inside, and pin stripe pants. He also wears a long black coat, which he leaves open. He has black hair and a long pony tail. He wears glasses in front of green eyes. Hazard Level : Sometimes Benjamin can mess up and he doesn't know where he's teleported or teleported something. That or in the event that he teleports Into somthing, like lets say inside a concrete wall. The force will be so great that the concrete wall will be forced to make room for Ben's body. But this mean's that ben will be trapped, breathing will be troublesome and will have a lot of broken bones. Biography : Benjamin was the head of a big Corporation in the human world. Being able to teleport landed him first place in line for his job (literaly) and over the years he worked his way up to a the highly regarded CEO. He was a great mischievous boy when he was young, and he still is today because of his mutation. He loves to play tricks on his secretaries, especially if they are new. He's known as the magician and that reputation helped gain the love of his employees. However that all came crashing down as someone barged in with a gun, it was a former employee who had been fired, and was ruiened because of Ben. The former employee turned out to be stealing chunks of money from the company, and thus his job was terminated and the employee could not find work anywhere else. Ben isn't faster then a bullet, but he wanted to stop one if he could. He came to the rescue and bounded for the fired employee before he could start shooting. But doing this revealed his secret, and even though he saved lives, he was now an' outcast as a mystling. Benjamin still had money, but his face was posted everywhere in the new's papers, magazines, new broadcasts. There was no where he could spend his money on. So he eventually withdrew all the money he had, and left with a new sense of hatred for both mystlings and humans. Spare Room To Type : Ben likes girls? D8
---
Can we add in mutated animals? or is it strictly a human mutation? D8
